Good Wednesday Morning!
Tomorrow (Thursday, August 15th) marks our first day of school!
Here are some important details to keep in mind:
• Doors Open: 6:50 AM
• Students in Class by: 7:20 AM
Arrival Information:
• Parents are welcome to walk in with their students, but please note that all K-5th grade teachers will be on Unencumbered Time, mandated by the state, until 7:15 AM.
• K-5th grade students will have designated waiting areas:
o Cafeteria
o Hallway outside their classroom
o 3rd grade (except Cook) at their assigned cafeteria table
On the first day, parents will wait with their child until the teacher opens the door. Parents can walk their students to class for the first 3 days of school, after which we will ask you to hug them goodbye.
Traffic Advisory:
• Expect heavy traffic tomorrow, as we anticipate 700+ families visiting the school.
• After the first day, the number will drop to 500 or fewer families.
• Please avoid parking in numbered spots; they are reserved for teachers and staff.
• To avoid the long car line, we recommend arriving in the car line or parking by 6:45 AM.
If staff members or our SRO communicates with you about parking or entry, please be considerate, as the first day can be stressful for everyone.
Tardiness Policy:
• We will allow leniency with tardies due to traffic congestion on the first day or two. Your children will be accommodated without penalty for arriving late.
Dismissal Information:
• Dismissal will begin at 1:50 PM and may take longer than usual as we ensure all 1000 students are accounted for.
• Bus Riders: Expect a 30-45 minute delay.
• Walkers: Delays of 15-20 minutes.
• Car Riders: Up to a 1-hour delay due to various factors.
If you haven't done so already, please visit the front office today before 3:00 PM to obtain your car tag.
We have attached traffic maps for arrival and dismissal for car riders. Please follow these maps closely:
• K4-K5: Across the front
• 1st-5th: Main car loop
This plan has been approved by our SRO to ensure safety and efficiency.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we get all 1000 students settled. We love all of you and are excited to see everyone tomorrow!
Every day will get better, faster, and more efficient!

Unfortunately, our phones and internet are currently down. We hope to have them up and running soon. We are still planning for meet the teacher tonight from 5-7. See you then!

Calling all K4 and Kindergarten Parents! We know the first day can be tough for you! Join the PTA for a Boo Hoo Breakfast for parents of kindergarten and K4 students on Thursday starting at 7.

For the upcoming school year, all BCSD schools will use Rooms as their direct communication tools for parents, teachers, athletic coaches, club advisors, etc. Because Rooms is located in the Berkeley County School District mobile app, this streamlines communication and minimizes the number of apps parents and guardians need for communication. If you haven't already, download the BCSD app today and turn on notifications so you never miss a message.

Berkeley County School District (BCSD) has postponed the first day of school to Thursday, August 15, giving teachers and staff more time to prepare and students an extra day of summer break. This decision comes after recent severe weather and flooding prevented access to school buildings for three days, disrupting traditional classroom and school preparation time for teachers and staff.
“We value the dedication of our teachers and staff in preparing classrooms and schools, and this additional day will allow them to better prepare to receive more than 38,000 students on Thursday,” said BCSD Superintendent Dr. Anthony Dixon. “Last week, teachers completed virtual professional development and training so now they can focus on classroom and school needs Monday through Wednesday.”
School and district offices will be open regular hours, and extracurricular activities and athletic programs will also operate according to their normal schedule. Information and schedules for school specific meet the teacher and grade specific orientation days have been shared with families by school leaders.
Dixon added, “We understand that disruptions in schedules are not easy for anyone so we appreciate the understanding of our parents and community as we work to ensure that the first day is the best it can be for students and teachers on Thursday.”
Any weather day adjustments necessary as a result of this calendar change will be reviewed and communicated, if needed, at a later date.

BCSD transitions to virtual operations today, August 9
Due to unexpected flash flooding resulting in numerous road closures and impassable road conditions, Berkeley County School District (BCSD) schools and offices will transition to virtual operations Friday, August 9.
All extracurricular activities, athletics, and school programs are currently suspended Friday, August 9. BCSD leaders urge staff to stay off of the roads.
In collaboration with county and municipal leaders, BCSD will reassess conditions Friday and throughout the weekend and provide updates, as appropriate, concerning potential access to schools and offices.
BCSD leaders are working closely with Berkeley County Emergency Management and are receiving regular updates about the weather from the National Weather Service. As safety and security is our

As a way of continuing to promote child nutrition and adding to the many celebrations capping the end of the school year, Berkeley County School District’s Office of Child Nutrition Services will launch a special giveaway next week (May 20–24) that will offer some big prizes.
Elementary, middle and high school students eating lunch and/or breakfast next week will be entered into a drawing for prizes that include, but are not limited to:
*iPads
*Wireless earbuds/headphones
*Underwater cameras
*Projectors
*Action cameras

Students will receive one entry into the drawing for each meal they eat. Winners will be drawn at random, and those who eat multiple meals will obviously have an increased chance of winning.
